Italy is through to the next European play-off round for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, but has not qualified for the tournament. A 1–1 draw with Belarus in Florence completed a 3–1 aggregate win and set up a tie with Finland.
Bonansea scores, Belarus responds
Barbara Bonansea put Italy ahead early in the second leg. Karina Olkhovik equalised for Belarus in the second half, but Italy’s 2–0 win in the first leg left it safely ahead overall.
What comes next?
Italy must now get past Finland in another two-legged play-off. UEFA’s format gives seven of the eight second-round winners direct places at Brazil 2027; the remaining winner enters the inter-confederation play-offs. Tuesday’s result settled only Italy’s first-round tie.
