England have secured Sarina Wiegman's future beyond the 2027 Women's World Cup, but must still beat Ukraine to reach Brazil.

Sarina Wiegman will remain England women’s head coach through the end of Women’s EURO 2029 after signing a contract extension announced by the Football Association. The agreement gives England continuity beyond the 2027 Women’s World Cup; it does not mean the Lionesses have qualified for Brazil.

What changes for England?

Wiegman had already led England to European titles in 2022 and 2025 and to the 2023 Women’s World Cup final. The new deal keeps her in charge for another major tournament cycle. Wiegman said her immediate concern is helping the squad secure its place at the next World Cup.

What comes next on the road to Brazil?

England must face Ukraine over two legs in the final round of Europe’s World Cup play-offs. The decisive second leg is scheduled for Wembley on 5 December. The winner will qualify for the 2027 tournament in Brazil; until then, England’s place remains unconfirmed.
